Why Be an Entrepreneur?

In the past two weeks, I had the opportunity to be a trainer in an entrepreneurship program, an activity I increasingly appreciate as it allows me to meet new people, explore new ideas, products, or services, and also directly share relevant experiences from my professional career to help others in their entrepreneurial endeavors.

With each such training or mentoring program, I reaffirm the choice I made over 12 years ago in my life—to be independent, to implement my own vision, and to have the freedom to choose and decide on my own entrepreneurial and investment projects.

In my view, being an entrepreneur is not just a “fancy thing”; it is much more than that—it means “passion,” “spirit,” “vision,” “goals,” “discipline,” and “hard work.” Before deciding to pursue an entrepreneurial path, I recommend an honest self-assessment to confirm these elements specific to a successful entrepreneurial journey. Constructively speaking, my opinion is: Entrepreneurship is not for everyone and not for every time.

My recommendations for an entrepreneurial career:

1.Find Your Passion! All remarkable developments start from a passion. “Passion is the genesis of genius.” – Tony Robbins

2.Identify your own vision for what you want to do. “The empires of the future are empires of the mind.” – Winston Churchill; “Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe.” – Oprah Winfrey

3.Plan and set clear, achievable goals: annual, monthly, even daily. “Dreams without goals are just dreams.” – Denzel Washington; “Keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

4.Attract good people around you. Seek partners and collaborators who share your values and vision, people with complementary qualities who will work alongside you in the same direction. “Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision.” – Andrew Carnegie

5.Ignore negative and arrogant people (naysayers). You will waste resources, energy, and precious time with such individuals.

6.Work disciplined and consistently towards your goals. “In order to achieve goals, you must apply discipline.” – Denzel Washington

7.Take risks, but calculated ones. Always have a backup plan for the worst-case scenario.

8.Give unconditional love! “I measure success by how many people love me. And the best way to be loved is to be lovable.” – Warren Buffett

I have learned many things in these two weeks of training and made new friends. I am very grateful for these experiences! I’ll end with this quote with which I fully identify: “Considering what I do to make a living, I am the luckiest man in the world. No one can ask me to do things I don’t believe in or things I consider foolish.” (From my friend W.B.)

With friendship,
Florin
